When a child is diagnosed with cancer, a chronic blood disorder or brain tumor, their parents’ or caregivers’ worlds halt. It can be horrendously overwhelming. At C.U.R.E. Childhood Cancer Association, we are embracing families at every turn.

We are in the trenches with patients and parents each and every day and focus on the day-to-day details, the little gestures that can add up to a huge impact over the course of treatment and beyond. We understand that parents and caregivers have demands all around them, but having a child with an illness can be even more overwhelming. Our goal is to ensure families feel they have support, but also to empower our families to overcome the challenges that accompany a diagnosis. The metaphor we use is that a parent is a pitcher of water and cannot fill the glasses around them if they are not full. The glasses represent all the things that require the parents’ or caregivers’ attention: the child with the illness, siblings, work, maintaining a house, vehicles, etc.

Ensuring families don’t feel alone during a very isolating time is essential to the mission of C.U.R.E. We can continue to provide services and support to families as a result of your kindness. Please consider contributing to this year’s Holiday Heroes campaign! You can recognize the individual(s) in your life who help get you through your tough days, just as we at C.U.R.E. help our families. Hero Recognition ads are each available in four levels: Platinum ($250 – $450), Gold ($100 – $249), Silver ($50 – $99) and Bronze ($25 – $49). The Hero Spotlight ads enable you to customize a message, insert graphics or even a photo of YOUR special hero. Sizes and prices for the Hero Spotlight ads are: 5 x 5 ($800), 3.25 x 5 ($650) or 2.5 x 5 ($475). All of these ads will be featured in the Messenger Post newspapers throughout Monroe, Wayne, Ontario and Yates Counties. The ads will appear in the Wayne Post, local Messenger Post publications in Monroe County, the Canandaigua Daily Messenger and in the Wayne County Pennysaver in late December near Christmas. Ads will also be available for viewing online on both C.U.R.E.’S website as well as the Messenger Post website, MPNNow.com, which will allow you to share your ad with friends and family from outside the area.
